Cooper
After we purchased our first home, we started looking for a canine sibling for our first dog, Pebbles. We wanted a playful dog that keep Pebbles young, and Cooper was a great match! Rebecca and I could tell immediately that Cooper was a sweet, loving dog – not because of what he was doing, but because of how he was doing it.
On our first visit, when we walked up the front steps and onto his foster mom’s porch, Cooper started jumping on all fours with a big smile on his face. He was underweight with wiry golden-white hair. We thought about how much his life had changed in the past few months, and the hardships he must have faced in Turkey. It was clear, though, that none of that was on his mind – Cooper was just so excited to meet new friends!
Friends became family shortly thereafter. Cooper came home in December 2017. At first, progress was slow. Cooper barely knew his own name, he barked at the night light we plugged in for him, and he had to learn how to ‘sit’. Cooper loves the snow, he is an enthusiastic cuddler, and he brought a childlike joy to our home.
In the past seven months, Cooper has become a member of the family. We love him deeply, and it breaks our hearts when Rebecca and I think about his journey, and all that he had to endure before he found his way home. We know that this is not Cooper’s happy ending, this is the happy beginning of the rest of his life. –Rebecca, Adam, Pebbles, and Cooper
