Sara

August 15, 2018

Sara was not your typical happy-go-lucky, eager to please affectionate Golden.  She was not interested in playing, taking long walks or swimming.  Nor would she shake.  She did not crave human affection. With other dogs Sara was clearly an alpha gal having a select few friends, one of them being a fellow Golden in the neighborhood. However, she needed to know where I was at all times and followed me everywhere.  Sara and I were constant companions.

Sara was 8 years old when we adopted her July 1, 2012 having been surrendered to GLGRR with her 6 year old son.  Medical records from New York state indicated she was spayed at age seven, so we assumed motherhood was her role and may have accounted for her disposition. At first Sara was not comfortable being outside, always heading for the nearest door or to jump in any car.  Even though we spent a lot of time outdoors it was over a year before she discovered the dog joy of a good roll in the grass.

Sara loved car rides and was an excellent traveler, making six winter trips to Florida and spending summers at the cottage. Her retirement was easy living. She was in excellent health until age 12 when a cancerous tumor was removed from a rear leg and a year later the diagnosis of Cushings Disease.  Weakening rear leg muscles also become an issue.

Sara crossed the Rainbow Bridge July 23, 2018 at 14 years, 3 months. We loved her for six years and miss talking and singing to her, and of course as a Golden parent, talking to her, because we knew Sara had an opinion about everything. She made us laugh everyday and deeply enriched our lives. We miss her dearly.

Thank you GLGRR for the opportunity to be Sara’s mom and dad! –Anita and Dave
